Introduction to TCM

中医简介

"The superior physician helps before the early budding of disease."

- Huangdi Neijing (The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Medicine)

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a comprehensive medical system that has been practiced for over 2,500 years. At its core, TCM views the human body as an integrated whole, intimately connected to nature and the cosmos. Unlike Western medicine which focuses on treating symptoms, TCM seeks to identify and address the root causes of imbalance in the body.

TCM incorporates several key concepts that form its theoretical foundation:

Core Principles

核心原则

Yin & Yang Theory

The concept of complementary opposites that form a dynamic system of balance in the universe and within the body. Yin represents cool, dark, and passive aspects while Yang represents warm, light, and active aspects.

The Five Elements

Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water - these elements interact in creative and controlling cycles, influencing organs, emotions, seasons, and all aspects of health.

Qi: Vital Energy

The fundamental life force that flows through the body. Health depends on the quality, quantity, and balance of Qi. Blockages or deficiencies lead to illness.

Meridian System

An invisible network of pathways through which Qi flows, connecting the body's surface with internal organs. There are 12 primary meridians and 8 extraordinary vessels.
